This bill amends the Fiscal Code of Pennsylvania to establish the Public Sector Workplace Safety Equipment Account as a restricted account within the General Fund. The Secretary of the Budget is required to transfer up to $3,800,000 from unexpended appropriations for general government operations to this account by October 1, 2025. Prior to the transfer, the Secretary must notify the Legislative Reference Bureau for publication and inform the chairpersons of the Appropriations Committees in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
Funds from the Public Sector Workplace Safety Equipment Account will be continuously appropriated to the Office of Administration for the purchase and distribution of safety equipment aimed at reducing workplace musculoskeletal disorders among employees in certain Commonwealth agencies. Eligible agencies include those operating nursing care facilities, residential facilities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those involved in highway, street, and bridge construction. The safety equipment may include lift kits for patient handling and postural support devices for construction workers. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, or immediately, whichever is later.
