I will soon introduce legislation to allow Pennsylvania to join the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Compact, enabling APRNs licensed in the state to hold a single multistate license and practice in all member states.

This legislation builds on the state’s efforts to update and streamline nursing practice. Earlier this year, the state implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), allowing registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to hold a single multistate license and practice in person or via telehealth in their home state and other member states. Joining the APRN Compact will expand access to care, strengthen our nursing workforce, and maintain strong patient protections.
Modern healthcare requires safe, accessible nursing care that can practice across state lines. The APRN Compact meets this need by allowing APRNs with at least 2,080 hours of practice to hold one multistate license in their home state, with the privilege to practice in other member states without obtaining additional licenses.

Key Benefits of Joining the APRN Compact:
  • Protects the public: ensures uniform licensure requirements, facilitates information sharing, and holds APRNs accountable to state laws.
  • Increases access: APRNs can respond quickly during disasters and serve underserved and rural communities.
  • Reduces licensing burden and cost: eliminates redundant licensing, supports military spouse APRNs who relocate frequently, and facilitates cross-state APRN education.
Please consider cosponsoring this initiative to empower nurses and expand safe, accessible care across Pennsylvania.
