A crime that is not often talked about but is widespread and can be found happening in any city or town across the state is drink spiking. The occurrence of drink spiking is more common than most people realize with 56% of women and 44% of men saying they have had their drink spiked at least once. Drink Spiking is a crime and can happen to anyone. It’s not the victims’ fault, for these perpetrators are acting with malicious intentions. Any drink can be spiked. Just because a person is not drinking alcohol, doesn’t mean their drink is safe. It is time we raise awareness and start working toward preventing these crimes.

Soon I plan to introduce legislation to establish The Task Force on Drink Spiking Response and Intervention. The goal of the task force will be to review and determine the safety and health shortfalls related to drink spiking. The group will provide legislative recommendations, such as officially defining drink spiking, training for employees that serve drinks, intervention techniques, improvements to the investigation and prosecution of drink spiking and care and testing for victims. After the task force completes its report the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Bureau of Alcohol Education will create a training program to accompany the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) on drink spiking awareness that licensee managers will be required to complete.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation and help work toward the prevention of drink spiking and the crimes it can lead to so that we can protect our children, friends and neighbors from becoming victims of drink spiking.
