This bill amends the Separations Act of May 1, 1913, to enhance the specifications required for the erection, construction, and alteration of public buildings in Pennsylvania. It mandates that when the total cost of such work exceeds four thousand dollars, architects, engineers, or other responsible parties must prepare separate specifications for plumbing, heating, ventilating,
fire sprinkler and suppression services, and electrical work. Additionally, it requires that separate bids be received for each branch of work, with contracts awarded to the lowest responsible bidder for each category.
Furthermore, the bill introduces a new section that defines "fire sprinkler and suppression services," detailing various systems designed to protect buildings from fire hazards. This definition encompasses a wide range of fire protection systems, including water sprinkler systems, foam extinguishing systems, and fire hydrants, among others. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
