In the near future, I will introduce legislation to conduct an LBFC study on the Municipal Planning Code and provide recommendations for updates.
The Municipal Planning Code provides the statutory framework for zoning, development, and land-use regulation across the Commonwealth. Since its enactment over 50 years ago, the Commonwealth has grown drastically. Unfortunately, the development regulatory framework that we rely upon has not been comprehensively reviewed or updated. Simply put, I have heard from many individuals and entities within my district that the Municipal Planning Code is not keeping up with the demands of modern times.
Given this, it is long past time for this body to conduct a comprehensive study into the effectiveness of the Municipal Planning Code in addition to identifying areas of conflict and opportunities for necessary change. This study will provide the General Assembly with the tools needed to implement purposeful and targeted improvements to our municipal planning code.
I urge my colleagues to join me in supporting this significant measure to ensure our municipal planning code meets the needs of the modern era of development in Pennsylvania.
