On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines, and Captain Samuel Nicholas established the first recruiting headquarters at the Tun Tavern on Water Street in Philadelphia. Following the Revolutionary War, the Marine Corps was formally established in 1798, and the establishment of the Marine Corps Reserve followed later in 1916.

In order to celebrate the vast achievements and sacrifices of the United States Marine Corps, and the role of Pennsylvania in the history of the Marines, we will be introducing a resolution to designate November 10, 2025, as the 250th birthday of the Marines here in Pennsylvania.

Around 175,000 active-duty and 33,000 reserve members remain always faithful to our nation and serve with honor, courage, and commitment. This year, and every year, we should take the time to reflect on the history of our Marines and thank them for their dedication to our country and our security.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to commemorate the founding of the United States Marine Corps here in Pennsylvania.
