I plan to introduce a condolence resolution honoring the life and achievements of former Pennsylvania State Representative Katie True, who passed away on October 7, 2025, at the age of 84.

Katherine “Katie” True was the loving wife of the late Peter True who passed away on June 1, 2024. She was the daughter of the late, George and Henriette (Ansell) Buck. She is survived by children, Peter (husband of Kendra), Christian (husband of Jen), Colin (husband of Carli), Eric (husband of Ruthann), Sean (husband of Lori) and Kevin (husband of Ann). She is also survived by her beloved 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

True began her career in public service when she founded Kids Saving Kids, a nationally recognized drug-education program for elementary students. She was a Member of the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth and served as Youth Director for Pennsylvanians AWARE, a statewide drug and alcohol prevention coalition. True’s commitment to her local community, combined with service as a Republican Committee woman, eventually led to a political career.

In 1992, she was first elected to represent the 37th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She served in that position until 2000, when she left the House to run for Pennsylvania Auditor General.

In 2002, after two years leading the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, she returned to the State House, this time representing the 41st District, which she served for eight years. True championed numerous legislative accomplishments on varied issues including furthering her work protecting children from drugs; increasing penalties for human trafficking and forced labor; and working closely with the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) to champion legislation allowing every resident of Pennsylvania to designate all or part of their state income tax refund for breast cancer research (with every penny raised going directly to cancer centers and research facilities in our Commonwealth).

In 2011, former Governor Tom Corbett named True as Commissioner of the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs within the Pennsylvania Department of State and then later called upon her to be his Legislative Secretary, where she served until her retirement.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this condolence resolution to honor the life and achievements of our esteemed colleague, who leaves behind an accomplished legacy of public service, and to extend our deepest sympathies to her family.
