Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to grow and expand in our daily lives – from Siri and Alexa to ChatGPT and robots that can walk and talk; these different forms of AI are used in nearly every industry. It is important to remember that as AI use increases for both administrative and companionship purposes, at the heart of most AI interfaces is human interaction, and that interaction needs to be protected.

As AI services develop, the necessary regulations must be put in place to protect consumers, specifically concerning AI chatbots. As more and more Pennsylvanians use these chatbots to ask questions, share thoughts and ideas, or just participate in a simple conversation, they need to know that the information they are sharing with the AI bot is safe.

That is why we are introducing a bill that would prohibit suppliers of AI chatbots from selling or sharing consumer information with a third party. Additionally, a supplier is prohibited from using an AI chatbot to advertise a specific product or service to a consumer, unless they clearly and conspicuously disclose this. Pennsylvania is already a leader in state-level consumer financial protection and innovative technology – and now, more than ever, as AI technology advances, Pennsylvanians must be protected. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
