In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution which would direct the Joint State Government Commission to study the costs and benefits of continued membership in the PJM Interconnection.

PJM is a regional transmission organization which manages the flow of electricity across its territory, which includes Pennsylvania and all or parts of Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It also runs the wholesale market which utilities use to buy power.

In recent months, members of this House, along with the Governor, have expressed concern about PJM practices and called for various reforms, especially after spikes in electricity prices in parts of Pennsylvania. Accordingly, this JSGC study would examine the financial risks and benefits associated with PJM membership, and evaluate the impact of PJM membership on residential, commercial, and industrial electricity customers. As we seek more information about PJM, I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
