In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to require PennDOT to provide the Gold Star Family plate at no cost to Gold Star families.
Currently, PennDOT requires a $20 fee accompanying the registration fee for family members of a person who was killed while serving on active duty in the military in order to receive the Gold Star Family plate. My legislation simply removes the $20 fee accompanying the application for the Gold Star Family plate and forbids PennDOT from collecting an additional fee for a personal Gold Star Family plate.
Gold Star families have already sacrificed enough for our Commonwealth and our Country, and eliminating an arbitrary fee shows how seriously we consider the importance of service of family members who have been lost in active duty. The least that we can do is provide a bit of relief to Gold Star families by eliminating the fee that accompanies the application for a Gold Star Family plate.
I hope you will consider co-sponsoring this important legislation to remove a senseless fee for the Gold Star Family plate.
