This resolution seeks to designate October 2025 as “Menopause Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania to raise awareness about the significant health and quality-of-life impacts of menopause. This recognition aims to highlight the urgent need to address stigma, expand access to treatment, and ensure that our health systems are responsive to the needs of aging populations.

Menopause can cause a range of symptoms—including hot flashes, sleep disturbances, depression, memory changes, cardiovascular impacts, and bone density loss—that affect physical health, mental well-being, employment, and family life. Women of color, particularly Black and Latina women, often experience earlier onset, longer duration, and more severe symptoms, yet face greater barriers in accessing care.

The lack of education and awareness surrounding menopause perpetuates stigma and leaves too many Pennsylvanians without the support they need. By designating October 2025 as Menopause Awareness Month, Pennsylvania can help normalize open conversation, encourage investment in research and workforce training, and promote equitable access to care for those navigating this natural life stage.

Given the broad and lasting impacts of menopause on health, families, and our economy, it is critical that we bring attention to this often-overlooked issue. I urge you to join me in recognizing October 2025 as “Menopause Awareness Month” to help shed light on this important matter.
