“Pennsylvania Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving”

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of
November 23 through November 29, 2025, as “Pennsylvania Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving.”
From the beginning, Pennsylvania was founded as William Penn’s
Holy Experiment—a Commonwealth built on faith in Almighty God, liberty of conscience and the conviction that true freedom is secure only when grounded in virtue. Penn reminded us that,
“True godliness doesn’t turn men out of the world, but enables them to live better in it, and excites their endeavors to mend it,” affirming that government without faith and morality cannot long endure.
Our Founding Fathers likewise acknowledged divine providence in public life:

- George Washington proclaimed national days of prayer and thanksgiving.
- John Adams affirmed that religion and morality are indispensable to good government.
- Thomas Jefferson championed religious liberty and the free exercise of faith.
- Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention, called for prayer to guide the framing of our Constitution.
Prayer and thanksgiving have been at the heart of American life from the Pilgrims at Plymouth to Pennsylvanians today, shaping our culture, our families, and our freedom. Thanksgiving is not merely a holiday but a sacred reminder that every blessing comes from God, and that a grateful people must humble themselves in prayer, seek His guidance, and acknowledge His hand in the life of our Commonwealth and Nation.
I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize the enduring role of faith and thanksgiving in Pennsylvania’s history and civic life.
