In the near future, we will introduce a resolution recognizing October 13, 2025, as the 250th birthday of the United States Navy in Pennsylvania.
As proud veterans of the United States armed forces, we are pleased to recognize this important anniversary to honor and commemorate this branch and its sailors responsible for on, above, and below water U.S. military force.

On October 13, 1775, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution creating the Continental Navy. In the weeks and months following, the newly established naval forces protected American trade from British blockade and predation, intercepted ships, and supplied General George Washington with an armed schooner and sloop to seize British supplies. These immediate actions proved to be successful, and soon, the naval force was extended all along the east coast to protect and defend the Colonies.  Today, Pennsylvania is home to about 550 active-duty Naval service members and their families. These sailors and veterans have, and continue to, serve the United States Navy as it continues to courageously defend our freedom, preserve economic prosperity, and keep the seas open and free through sustained forward presence.
Please join us in honoring all sailors who have served, and are currently serving, our commonwealth and nation in our distinguished and successful United States Navy through all 250 years.
