Survivors of sexual abuse by some of the world’s most powerful people have been denied justice and silenced for too long. Despite public pressure from across the political spectrum, thousands of pages in legal documents filed against disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein remain concealed, allowing the truth to stay hidden. I am introducing a resolution that aims to rectify this injustice by urging the United States Congress to exercise its constitutional oversight authority to obtain and release all records related to Jeffrey Epstein, and calling on those named in these documents who are credibly implicated in crimes to be held accountable.

After investigating more than 300 “predator priests” in a 2019 grand jury report, Pennsylvania emerged as a nationwide leader in taking a firm stance against sexual abuse and assault. Following this report, the Pennsylvania General Assembly passed legislation to present a constitutional amendment to voters that sought to extend the statute of limitations for childhood survivors of sexual assault and allow them to sue their perpetrators. Further, in February 2023, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives held a special session, passing two bills to reform Pennsylvania’s statute of limitations law as it relates to childhood sexual abuse survivors pursuing legal action against their abusers. By demanding the release of the Epstein Files, we can continue working toward eradicating sexual violence and show that no one is above the law.

The continued concealment of these files erodes public trust in government, a point of agreement for people across the country and on both sides of the aisle. I ask that you join me in calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the Epstein Files, sending a clear message that the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will not tolerate the protection of predators. Wealth and status should never shield abusers from consequences.
