On January 2, 2023, Chief of Police Justin McIntire of the Brackenridge Borough Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty. The shooter had converted a handgun into a machine gun using a small and cheaply made device known as a “switch” or “Glock switch”, which can allow a pistol to fire up to 1,200 rounds per minute. Although federal law currently bans switches, local law enforcement and prosecutors have seen that a federal ban is not enough to combat the proliferation of switches as well as similar devices, such as bump stocks, which enabled a shooter in Las Vegas to kill 58 people and wound hundreds more in 2017.

For these reasons, we will be introducing legislation that would ban all “machine gun conversion devices”, including switches, bump stocks, and other similar devices. Machine guns are outlawed for a reason – they are far too dangerous to our communities.

Please join us in removing the loophole that allows dangerous individuals to possess weapons that can fire at the rate of a machine gun.
