In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge in Jordan Township, Clearfield County, as the PFC Raymond Lee McGarvey Memorial Bridge.
Raymond Lee McGarvey was born on May 7, 1946 in Berwinsdale Pennsylvania, Clearfield County. Raymond graduated from Beccarria Coalport High School in Coalport, Pennsylvania. Outside of school, Raymond was active in Future Farmers of America club and 4H. He enjoyed spending time with his Father, Walter E McGarvey, and Mother Evelyn McGarvey.  PFC McGarvey entered the service of the U.S. Army under the 25th Division, 3rd Brigade, 35th Infantry, and would go on to earn various decorations including the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with V, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation. On July 3, 1966, Private First-Class Raymond Lee was killed in action by machine gun fire while serving on a search and destroy mission located in the Pleiku Province, Vietnam. Private First-Class Raymond Lee McGarvey made the ultimate sacrifice after single-handedly charging a fortified machine gun position to defend his comrades against enemy fire.
I hope you will consider sponsoring this legislation and join me in honoring the service and sacrifice of PFC Raymond Lee McGarvey.
