In the near future, I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge in Catherine Township, Blair County, as the Sgt. Edward Vernon McChessney Memorial Bridge.

Edward Vernon McChessney was born on January 21, 1930, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Edward graduated from Altoona High School in 1947. He was in the plumbing and welding program. Outside of his service, Edward had a large family, including 16 brothers and sisters. He lived with his sister, Geraldine Shadle at the grandparents’ (William & Ida Edwards Shadle) home in Hueston Township, Blair County, in 1930. Edward is a Korean War Veteran, serving as Sgt. in the United States Air Force 5th Bomb Squad, stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. Sgt. McChessney died on March 28, 1952 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana as a result of an automobile accident. He was traveling back to base after visiting his parents.

I hope you will consider sponsoring this legislation and join me in honoring the service of Sgt. Edward Vernon McChessney.
