In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating September 2025 as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. This resolution is substantially similar to Senate Resolution 330 of the 2023-24 Legislative Session.

I can’t begin to imagine the fear of hearing a child has cancer, yet I’ve met far too many families who have faced that devastating reality. Still, their strength is undeniable as their courageous children fight with remarkable resolve and even a smile.

What’s even more inspiring is that, amid their own battles, these families continue to advocate for better treatments, more resources, and increased awareness—not just for their child, but for every child yet to be diagnosed. Their determination is a powerful reminder of why we must never stop fighting alongside them.

Over the past five years, Pennsylvania’s partnership with these advocates has delivered over tens of millions in historic funding for pediatric cancer research. These efforts have also expanded access to vital resources that keep children connected and supported during treatment. Together, we’ve brought more hope to families and established Pennsylvania as a national leader in the fight against pediatric cancer.

This resolution honors the courageous children fighting pediatric cancer and remembers those who have passed. It recognizes the tireless efforts of advocates, especially parents who champion the cause for all children, and commends the medical and research communities for their dedication. It also highlights the progress Pennsylvania has made in advancing the fight against this devastating disease.

For example, amongst the many deserving charitable causes, citizens can learn more about, and potentially donate to, the Pediatric Cancer Research Fund that can be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Health website
here.
Previous co-sponsors of SR 330 were: Senators Argall, Bartolotta, Boscola, Brooks, Brown, Cappelletti, Comitta, Costa, Culver, Dillon, Dush, Fontana, Gebhard, Haywood, Hutchinson, Langerholc, Laughlin, Mastriano, Miller, Phillips-Hill, Regan, Robinson, Schwank, Tartaglione, Vogel and Judy Ward.
Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution to continue to raise awareness and show our support for our family members, neighbors, friends and colleagues affected by pediatric cancer.
