In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will ready our warehouses and distributions centers to become powerhouses for an expanded energy portfolio and lower consumer energy costs.

Over the last decade, demand for e-commerce has reshaped our economy, our logistics industry, and the physical landscape of the Commonwealth. Warehouses and distribution centers have become commonplace sights around our major roads and in communities with access to arterial routes.

These facilities present a valuable opportunity for solar development. Their rooftops are often in open areas without canopy coverage and cannot otherwise be put toward productive uses. We have the chance to increase Pennsylvania’s energy production, further the development of high-paying jobs, and lower customer utility bills.

To advance these goals, I am introducing legislation to propose the following:

1. Require that all new warehouses and distribution centers be constructed so that they are solar-ready; and
2. Provide a tax credit for existing warehouses and distribution centers to make any retrofits necessary to be solar-ready.

This is a commonsense effort with broad support that will make the best, most economical use of our space. Please join me in cosponsoring this practical legislation.
