Many of our senior constituents living on fixed incomes have felt the heavy burden of rising inflation in recent years. Fortunately, through collective effort, we’ve successfully passed legislation designed to support our lower-income retirees as they face these financial challenges. Today, I am offering a new opportunity that continues our commitment to helping our seniors.

Similar to the reduced vehicle registration fee that exists for qualifying seniors, I am proposing legislation that would provide the same reduced fee benefit to qualifying retirees for driver’s licenses and identification cards. Under this proposal, retirees with an annual income of $29,906 or less would be eligible for a reduced fee driver’s license or identification card. This income threshold aligns with the current standard provided for a reduced vehicle registration and it would be updated annually based on the CPI-U. Additionally, the amount of the reduced fee would be revised every two years in accordance with the CPI-U, pursuant to the existing automatic adjustment provisions of 75 Pa.C.S.   1904(c).

Please join me in supporting this legislation that will assist our lower-income retirees.
