Ensuring that individuals have healthy vision in Pennsylvania is a key medical concern, especially for our youth who have increased their time looking at screens over the past decade. By 2050, current trends suggest that vision-related problems could affect millions more Americans who are unaware of the causes and severity of such conditions.

It is important that we raise awareness of this crucial yet underdiscussed health issue. For this reason, I plan to introduce a resolution that would designate the week of October 5 through 11, 2025, as “National Healthy Vision Week” in Pennsylvania.

All Pennsylvanians can benefit from learning more about the risk factors for developing vision-related problems, especially exposure to blue light and inadequate sleep. Protecting the eyesight of our youth can lead to a healthier future in our state. In addition, encouraging visits with eye specialists among adults can reverse trends in vision impairments and address the needs of individuals at high risk for severe vision loss.

Please join me in helping designate the week of October 5 through 11, 2025, as “National Healthy Vision Week” in Pennsylvania in an effort to raise awareness about maintaining eye health.
