Years ago, the General Assembly enacted legislation that created a Red Light Camera program in Philadelphia after the release of a report which identified several intersections in the city as being among the most dangerous roads in the country. Following the implementation of this program, the intersections in which red light cameras were installed saw substantial reductions in violations. The success of the program in Philadelphia led to several extensions and expansions over the past 20 years.

While Pennsylvania has made strides in combating unsafe and distracted driving over the past few years, distracted driving remains a top concern for residents throughout the state and in my district in Allentown. We need to do more to change unsafe driving behaviors; expanding the use of red light cameras – a tool that has proven to be effective time and again over the past 20 years – is a step in the right direction. That is why I am soon introducing legislation to permit the City of Allentown to utilize these devices.

Please join me in supporting the need for safer roads for the residents of Allentown. Thank you.
