Subject: Facilitating Voter Participation Act

Soon, I plan to introduce legislation waiving the fee for an identification card solely for the purpose of obtaining identification necessary to exercise an individual’s fundamental right to vote.

For many citizens, the cost associated with obtaining a state-issued identification card presents a significant barrier to voter participation.

The ability to vote is a cornerstone of our democracy. Restricting access to this right due to an inability to pay an administrative fee undermines the principles of equal access and universal suffrage. My proposal aligns with the spirit of laws designed to facilitate voter participation and ensures that economic status does not disenfranchise eligible citizens.

It is a reasonable accommodation that ensures all eligible citizens, regardless of their financial circumstances, can exercise their constitutional right to vote.
