In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution designating August 17, 2025 through August 23, 2025 as “Social Media Safety and Parental Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania.

Recently and tragically, in many communities throughout our Commonwealth and nation, we are hearing of occurrences in which young people are faced with situations involving the dangers of social media. There has been an increase in cases involving victims of sextortion, when an online predator tricks an individual into providing private images or videos, then demands money.

As we continue to build upon our legislative accomplishments of addressing online safety and crimes, it is imperative that we do all we can to help protect our young people in these situations. On behalf of grieving parents who have had to go through these most unfortunate experiences, our intent with this resolution is to help remind ourselves of the dangers of social media and help raise awareness as we approach the upcoming school year.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
