Currently, the owner of an antique or classic motor vehicle may request permission from PennDOT to display a vintage license plate on their vehicle. A vintage license plate is a period-issued plate issued from 1906 to 1976 provided by the vehicle owner that matches the antique or classic motor vehicle’s year of manufacture. However, by restricting these plates to only those issued up to the year 1976, we are preventing the use of multiple vintage designs from recent history that are popular among antique and classic car enthusiasts.

To address this problem, I will be introducing legislation allowing for the use of vintage license plates issued from 1906 to 1999. This will allow for the attached plate designs to be used on antique and classic motor vehicles that match the vehicle’s year of manufacture. Additionally, my legislation will give PennDOT the ability to approve vintage license plates issued after 1999 at their discretion without the need for future legislation.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to assist our antique and classic car communities.
