If you head to a car dealership on a Sunday in Pennsylvania with the hope of coming home with a new vehicle, you’re out of luck. Less than half of the fifty states still prohibit the Sunday sale of vehicles by licensed dealers, and Pennsylvania is one of them. This is one of our few remaining “blue laws,” a series of laws that prohibit a myriad of activities on Sundays. Most, if not all of these laws are viewed as outdated, and we have eliminated several over the past few years. Most recently, in 2016, Pennsylvania permitted Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores to sell alcohol on Sundays.

For this reason, I am re-introducing legislation which would allow normal vehicle business dealers to sell motor vehicles on Sundays. These businesses would also be permitted to stay open on and finalize sales contracts on Sundays. Most of Pennsylvania’s neighbors allow Sunday vehicle sales at car dealerships. Therefore, by prohibiting these sales, we lose out on transactions and put our Commonwealth at a competitive disadvantage.

Please join me in supporting this legislation to keep Pennsylvania’s car dealerships competitive with those in other states and boost our economic activity.
