In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will designate September 17 as ‘Constitution Day’ in Pennsylvania. The celebration of Constitution Day provides an opportunity for people to learn about the importance of the United States Constitution by acknowledging the rights, freedoms and liberties that United State citizens have been afforded.

On February 29, 1962, the United States Congress designated September 17 as Constitution Day. In 2004, an amendment filed to the Federal omnibus spending bill mandated that all publicly funded educational institutions and Federal agencies provide educational programs on the history of the United States Constitution on that day.

It only makes sense that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the birthplace of America, should also encourage publicly funded schools and universities to provide educational programs surrounding the history of the United States Constitution on September 17.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
