Every day, patients across the Commonwealth may be exposed to a toxic additive found in IV bags and tubing. This additive, Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, or DEHP, belongs to a class of chemicals called phthalates, which are used to make plastics soft, flexible, and durable. However, research is mounting that exposure to DEHP causes numerous health problems and has been linked to breast, liver, lung, and testicular cancer. It is time to move away from IV bags and tubing that contain DEHP.

That is why I am introducing legislation to phase out the use of DEHP in IV bags and tubing. With cost-effective and safer DEHP-free alternatives available, there is no need to continue exposing patients to this dangerous additive. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to help keep our patients safe.
