In the near future, we intend to introduce legislation that would limit the manufacturing, sale, distribution, and use of firefighting foam containing PFAS beginning in 2026. Our proposal would allow fire companies to utilize their Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant funding to mitigate the small cost of disposal of PFAS-laden foam and work with the State Fire Commissioner to work with DEP to ensure proper disposal of the foam.

This bill would continue to allow airports, chemical plants, oil refineries or flammable liquid or natural gas terminals, storage facilities or distribution facilities to maintain firefighting foam with PFAS.

This bill is a result of many years of working with leaders in the fire protection community, conversations with our House colleagues and staff, and agreements with industry leaders on a commonsense compromise to help protect our firefighters. We would appreciate your support on this measure.
