In the near future, I will introduce legislation that will award grants to non-profit organizations and local governments for health care, cultural competency, computer training, job placement, social activities, and other programs that specifically help the LGBTQ+ senior community.

Our LGBTQ+ senior citizens have unmet needs that existing services do not address. They:
  • Experience higher rates of mental distress and depression than other senior citizens;
  • Are less likely to be partnered or married, which can result in less social and financial support; and
  • Face the possibility of discrimination and prejudice when accessing services.

This bill will designate $2.5 million from the Lottery Fund to support these important programs to ensure the mission of the Lottery Fund benefits all senior citizens, including those with unique needs in the LGBTQ+ community.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
