The proposed bill amends the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act by introducing a new section that prohibits the addition of fluoride or any fluoride-containing substances to public water systems. Under this new provision, water suppliers in Pennsylvania are mandated to cease the addition of fluoride within 30 days of the bill's effective date. Additionally, local governments and authorities are restricted from enacting any ordinances or regulations that would allow or require the fluoridation of public water systems.
Furthermore, the bill requires water suppliers currently adding fluoride to submit a detailed report to the Department of Environmental Resources within 90 days of the effective date. This report must include the supplier's name and license number, the date fluoridation was stopped, the methods used to discontinue fluoridation, and measures taken to ensure compliance. The Department is also tasked with posting these reports on its website, and violations of this section will be treated as violations under existing law, with each day of noncompliance considered a separate violation. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
