County borough associations provide forums to bring local government officials together to discuss countywide issues, municipal cooperation agreements, and training opportunities, as well as hear from state officials. These associations are vital to ensuring borough officials are able to communicate with other borough officials in their county and facilitating dialogue between our municipalities.

My office was contacted by a borough council member in my district who made me aware that there is a $100 maximum cap on county borough association annual membership dues. As the price of hosting quarterly meetings has increased, this cap on dues has become a burden on some associations and caused an increase in prices for members attending these meetings, leading to lower attendance.

To ensure that our county borough associations are able to continue their important work and be accessible to all of their elected members, I plan to introduce legislation that would amend the Borough Code to eliminate the cap each borough may pay for annual county association dues. This would eliminate the inconsistency of an arbitrary limit that only applies to county borough associations, and not for dues to other types of state or county associations of municipalities.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation that would bring uniformity with the municipal codes and continue to provide borough officials with a forum that encourages communication and cooperation.
