With the use of technology in the modern workplace, employee monitoring has expanded beyond direct observation. Today, employers can monitor employees on their computers, including with activity monitoring and keystroke logging. If an employee does not know they are being monitored, this can cause security risks when passwords are recorded and saved.

Because of this concern, I will be introducing legislation to require employers to provide written notice and display obvious signage to notify their employees if they are being monitored. Employees deserve to know they are being monitored by their employers in order to make the best choices for their privacy and security. Importantly, this legislation would still allow Pennsylvania employers to monitor their employees; they would simply need to inform their employees of this.

Please join me in protecting the privacy and security of hardworking Pennsylvanians. While employee monitoring can be helpful to an employer, it is important that employees are aware of being monitored
