The bill amends the Nursing Home Administrators License Act of June 22, 1970, by updating the composition and qualifications of the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. The board will now consist of fifteen members, including six nursing home administrators from various facility types, three members involved in the care of chronically ill patients from professions outside nursing home administration, three consumer representatives, and designated officials from health and consumer protection agencies. Notably, the requirement that all board members be citizens of the United States has been removed, while still mandating that they be residents of Pennsylvania.
Additionally, the qualifications for candidates seeking licensure as nursing home administrators have been revised. The bill eliminates the requirement for candidates to be U.S. citizens or to have declared their intention to become citizens, while maintaining the need for candidates to be at least twenty-one years old and to demonstrate good moral character and suitable educational background. Furthermore, the criteria for issuing temporary permits to nursing home administrators have been adjusted, removing the citizenship requirement and focusing on age, good moral character, and suitability. The act is set to take effect in 60 days.
