The bill amends the Nursing Home Administrators License Act of June 22, 1970, by updating the composition and qualifications of the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. It specifies that the board will consist of fifteen members, including six nursing home administrators from various types of facilities, three members involved in the care of chronically ill patients, three consumer representatives, and designated officials from health and consumer protection agencies. Notably, the requirement for board members to be U.S. citizens has been removed, while still mandating that they be residents of Pennsylvania.
Additionally, the bill modifies the qualifications for candidates seeking licensure as nursing home administrators. It eliminates the requirement for candidates to be U.S. citizens or to have declared their intention to become citizens, while maintaining the need for candidates to demonstrate good moral character and complete satisfactory preliminary education. The provisions for issuing temporary permits to nursing home administrators have also been updated, removing the citizenship requirement and allowing the board to grant permits under specific circumstances affecting the administration of a nursing home. The act is set to take effect in 60 days.
