I will be introducing a resolution to designate April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Pennsylvania.
Children are our most precious resource. They deserve to be loved and protected and grow up in an environment that is free from abuse and neglect. Child abuse and neglect affects countless families across the country, regardless of geography, ethnicity, or income.
In Pennsylvania, over 40,000 reports of suspected child abuse were received in 2023, with almost 60 substantiated fatalities. In the United States, an estimated 558,899 children were victims of abuse and neglect in 2022, the most recent year for which there is national data. That is 8 children out of every thousand.
By recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in PA, we can bring attention to the prevalence of child abuse and acknowledge the importance of working together to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution.
