Freedom to Work -- Protecting Therapists from Non-Compete Covenants

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend the “Fair Contracting for Health Care Practitioners Act” (Act of Jul. 17, 2024, P.L. 846, No. 74 - Cl. 35) to include Speech Language Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Respiratory Therapists.

In the ever-changing economic landscape of the medical field, hospitals and medical practices are frequently being bought and sold, leading to a troubling shortage of medical professionals. The outdated practice of enforcing “non-compete” clauses on these vital practitioners simply due to business acquisitions is adversely affecting the availability of these services to the citizens of Pennsylvania who need them.

It is imperative that we remove this obstacle to ensure these professionals can continue to work and serve the people of Pennsylvania without the constant fear of unemployment through no fault of their own.

I urge you to join me in co-sponsoring this crucial legislation to protect the rights of these healthcare providers so they can freely contribute to our communities.
