In the near future, we plan to introduce a condolence resolution honoring the life of West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte of York Township, who gave his life in the line of duty on February 22, 2025, at the age of 30.

On Saturday, February 22, 2025, he and his fellow officers responded to a hostage situation at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. Officer Duarte, without hesitation, put himself in harm’s way to protect vulnerable patients, nurses, doctors, and staff at the hospital.

Officer Duarte had served with the West York Borough Police Department for over two years and previously served with the Denver Police Department for five years. In 2021, Officer Duarte received a hero award from Mother’s Against Drunk Driving for his work in enforcing impaired driving in Colorado.

Officer Duarte was the epitome of a true public servant – putting others above himself. As his mother said after the tragic event, he had a warrior heart and a warrior spirit.

Please join us in cosponsoring this important resolution to honor the life and heroic actions of one of York County’s finest.
