The thyroid plays a vital role in the growth and development of the human body and is a key factor in the regulation of metabolism. Millions of Americans suffer from a thyroid disorder, such as an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), thyroid cancer, or other conditions that disrupt healthy thyroid functions. Unfortunately, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 44,020 new cases of diagnosed thyroid cancer in 2025, with more women being diagnosed than men.

For these reasons, I will be introducing a resolution that would recognize the month of September 2025 as “Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. It is important that individuals with thyroid disorders receive a prompt diagnosis so that appropriate treatment can be provided, and symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated.

Please join me in spreading awareness of thyroid disorders to improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
