For our servicemembers, physical fitness is more than just a healthy lifestyle—it is essential to job performance and can save lives. To support their readiness, we will soon introduce legislation providing tax credits to members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Reserve, and active-duty military for expenses related to physical fitness, including gym memberships, personal fitness subscriptions, and fitness equipment.

Modeled after the IRS Educator Expense Deduction, this legislation would allow National Guard, Reserve, and active-duty military members to deduct up to $600 in qualified fitness expenses per calendar year on their Pennsylvania state tax returns. Eligible expenses include gym memberships, online fitness subscriptions, and home fitness equipment purchases.

Additionally, our proposal would provide tax credits to Pennsylvania fitness facilities and gyms that offer free or discounted memberships to eligible military personnel.

The health and fitness of our service members directly impact the readiness of the Guard and military to train, prepare, and respond to domestic and national operations. This legislation incentivizes our military personnel to maintain their fitness, strengthening our overall preparedness.

We invite you to co-sponsor this important initiative in support of those who serve.
