Many film productions include child actors, and the harsh realities of long work hours and living a public life can make them vulnerable to adult predators. For example, the 2024 docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” had former child actors from Nickelodeon shows in the 1990s and early 2000s share their experiences of abuse on sets. Additionally, the documentary revealed that a film executive convicted of child abuse was fired from one children's television network only to be hired again by another children’s network without going through a child abuse background check.

There are various child labor laws and protections, but abusers still fall through the cracks, and those mistakes can traumatize child actors forever. As legislators, we need to better protect child actors and make all adults on film sets accountable. Therefore, I am introducing a companion bill package to Senator Collett and Senator Kane’s legislation to ensure that child actors are protected from abuse by adults on film sets.

Please join me in these important pieces of legislation to protect child actors in Pennsylvania.
