This bill amends the Chiropractic Practice Act to establish a new chapter dedicated to Certified Chiropractic Assistants (CCAs). It outlines the eligibility requirements for certification, which include being at least 18 years old, possessing a high school diploma, demonstrating good moral character, graduating from an approved chiropractic assistant program, and passing a board-approved examination. The bill also introduces provisions for temporary certification, allowing applicants to work under the supervision of a licensed chiropractor while awaiting their examination results. Additionally, it specifies the responsibilities and limitations of CCAs, including the requirement for direct on-premises supervision by a licensed chiropractor and restrictions on the types of services they can perform.
Furthermore, the bill makes editorial changes to the existing law regarding unlicensed or uncertified supportive personnel, clarifying that licensed chiropractors may utilize such personnel under direct supervision, provided they do not delegate tasks requiring formal chiropractic education or training. The definition of "direct on-premises supervision" is also updated to ensure clarity in the supervisory relationship. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
