Fort Indiantown Gap is the home to the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA). It is also among the busiest National Guard Training Centers in the country, seeing more than 100,000 personnel pass through each year for training. The Gap is a crown jewel of our Commonwealth—but we owe it to the members of our military, veterans, and their families to continuously improve the facilities and address any quality-of-life issues that may arise at a military base that is nearly 100 years old.
We are partnering with DMVA and our Senate colleagues to introduce a proposal that would allow the Adjutant General to lease property at the Gap to a business or non-profit that will generate income to benefit the quality of life of those who use the base. Revenue generated by any lease would specifically be targeted to support the physical fitness and well-being, personal growth and development, social interaction and camaraderie, and opportunities for leisure and recreation for military members, veterans, and their families.
Our military members and their families are asked to bear many hardships in their service. We have an opportunity to ease some of that burden by ensuring the facilities at Fort Indiantown Gap support their quality of life. Please join us in co-sponsoring this effort to ensure the Gap remains a leading military training site for generations to come.
