The bill amends the Health Care Facilities Act of July 19, 1979, by adding a new section that establishes a firearms policy for health care facilities. Under the new Section 823, health care facilities are required to create and publicly share a policy regarding the possession of firearms and firearm accessories on their premises. If firearms are allowed, the policy must outline safe carrying and storage procedures. Conversely, if firearms are prohibited, the policy must detail the steps employees should take if someone enters the facility with a firearm.
Additionally, the bill provides definitions for what constitutes a "health care facility," which includes various types of medical service providers such as urgent care centers, dental offices, and facilities defined under related mental health legislation. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
