Homeowner and Common Interest Ownership Association executive boards should not have the authority to make unilateral decisions on behalf of all unit owners while limiting their access and consent. That is why I plan to introduce legislation that will limit the matters that can be discussed in executive board meetings of common interest ownership communities and provide for greater transparency in such meetings. This measure will give greater power to regular unit owners in common interest ownership communities to have a say in association decisions and remove a potential obstacle discouraging some Pennsylvania residents from joining these communities.

When homeowners associations, condominiums, or cooperatives make important decisions, they often consult their respective communities in a meeting with the unit owners or proprietary lessees. However, in some cases, the executive boards of these associations may make plans and decisions in closed meetings without the approval of all unit owners, thereby inhibiting the transparency of the association and the voices of the unit owners affected by these choices.

Individuals living in homeowners associations, cooperatives, and condominiums should not have to worry about their way of life being restricted without their approval. Please show your support to these Pennsylvania residents by co-sponsoring this important legislation.
