This bill amends Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes regarding the exemption of certain persons, entities, and vehicles from registration fees. Specifically, it introduces a new provision that exempts active volunteer first responders from the registration fee for their vehicles, provided they use these vehicles to respond to emergencies as part of an emergency medical services company, volunteer fire company, or volunteer rescue service. While the registration fee is waived, a processing fee of $10 will still be charged to cover the costs associated with issuing or renewing the registration.
Additionally, the bill clarifies that only one passenger car or truck with a registered gross weight of not more than 9,000 pounds may be registered under the provisions that include the new exemption for active volunteer first responders. This amendment aims to support and recognize the contributions of volunteer first responders in their communities by alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with vehicle registration. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
