As of January this year, over 160,000 families in Pennsylvania rely on CHIP—a state and federally funded program providing health insurance to low-income children. While CHIP has been instrumental in ensuring access to care, gaps remain—particularly for children with lip and tongue-ties, common conditions that can impair eating and breathing but are easily corrected with a simple, often anesthesia-free frenectomy.

Despite the simplicity and necessity of this procedure, CHIP does not expressly cover frenectomies, leaving many families without access to this critical treatment.

To close this gap, I will be reintroducing legislation to mandate CHIP coverage for frenectomies and ensure that dental providers serving CHIP enrollees offer this service. By doing so, we uphold quality, accessible health care for Pennsylvania’s children.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Pennsylvania’s children deserve the best start in life—let’s take the next step in making that a reality.
