The bill amends Title 51 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes by adding a new subchapter, Subchapter D, which establishes a veteran-owned business logotype. This logotype is intended to signify that a business is owned or controlled by a veteran, defined as a business where at least 51% of the ownership interest is held by a veteran. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is tasked with developing the logotype and an application process for veteran-owned businesses to use it. The application will be made available on the department's website, and guidelines for establishing veteran-owned status will also be provided online.
Additionally, the bill imposes penalties for fraudulent claims of veteran status in relation to the logotype, classifying such actions as a misdemeanor of the third degree. Any fines collected from violations will be directed to the Veterans' Trust Fund. The department is required to report annually on the number of businesses approved to use the logotype and the applications received, with the first report due by March 31 of each year. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its passage.
