The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 105,000 individuals in the United States will be diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, in 2025. While melanoma is highly treatable when caught early, the survival rate for the condition drops to just 35% when it spreads to distant parts of the body, making it imperative that people take proper precautions and regularly check for signs and symptoms of the disease.

To raise awareness of these symptoms and the best ways to prevent the condition, I plan to introduce a resolution to recognize May 2025 as “Melanoma Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Such recognition would also raise awareness of the difficult times faced by those diagnosed with melanoma and the medical staff who work to save the lives of the countless individuals facing the condition.

Over 8,000 individuals are expected to die in the United States from melanoma this year. Please help me lower this number by co-sponsoring this resolution to raise awareness of the ways to prevent this condition and the treatment options available to our loved ones who are diagnosed.
