In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would reform government per diems by requiring itemized receipts for reimbursement.
For years, there have been reports of high per diem claims, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayer dollars. In 2010, the Senate Government Management and Cost Reduction Commission recommended a comprehensive review of the per diem system, suggesting that a receipt-based system could lead to significant taxpayer savings.
This reform will provide much needed transparency and consistency, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. By requiring itemized receipts for reimbursement, while maintaining the current IRS established reimbursement rates, we can foster greater trust between government and the public. This simple step will give citizens confidence that their tax dollars are being used efficiently, without unnecessary waste.
I hope that you will consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jeffrey Ivicic in my office at
