I will soon be introducing legislation to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to provide limitations on the holding of special elections for members of the General Assembly. At present, the Commonwealth has experienced a very large number of legislative special elections in each of the past few sessions; these elections cost taxpayer money, and are often necessary only because a member of the General Assembly has sought other public office. Under the bill, special elections would be required to occur on the next Primary or Municipal election date; if a vacancy arises during a General Election year and after it is feasible to hold a special election on the Primary date, the vacancy would remain for the duration of the term.

It is my hope that this bill will reduce costs to the Commonwealth from unnecessary additional elections. Please join me in sponsoring this reform.
